Proposal for interior design
OVERVIEW
| Thesis work | Time: 2007-2009 | Role: Designer
Electric Raceabout was all-electric sports car developed by the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. It contains lithium-titanate batteries, four direct-drive electric motors, and a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with steel sub-frames.
ERA has an operational range of 200 km. Its total weight is 1,700 kg with a 550 kg battery pack.

ERA was introduced in the summer of 2009 with a target to reach low-volume production.

LAYOUT
The interior design began with layout planning, focusing on the cockpit base structure, interior part placement, and optimizing the driver space and ergonomics.

CARDBOARD
The interior design continued with measurements of the primary control elements, including the steering wheel, pedals, indicators, lights, and essential buttons. The dashboard layout was crafted to optimize functionality, ensuring space and comfort for the driver.

Initial models were constructed from cardboard to explore form and ergonomics.

DESIGN AND CARBONFIBRE
Once the interior ergonomics model was complete, next was to create a detailed 3D model, focusing on each component essential for manufacturing. This included the dashboard, center console, door panels, roof arches, and aluminum controls and buttons. Each interior element was designed with precision and produced using carbon fiber to match the vehicle's body components, ensuring strength and durability.

ERA took part in the Automotive X Prize competition and came in second in its class. ERA made a new road-legal electric vehicle lap record in Nürburgring Nordschleife in September 2011.
